Why We Do What We Do

We now live in an increasingly throwaway society. A society where goods are bought, used - sometimes not - and disposed of at a faster and faster rate. A revolving world where new is fleeting until the next hot trend arrives.

We are inspired by a time when purchases were considered – often taking time to save up to buy them. A time where possessions were lovingly cherished and used for long periods of time. Items were maintained, sometimes mended, and passed on to younger generations where they carried soul and a story.

At Francis M. we maintain that certain things in life such as luxury bedding should be of the finest quality possible, classic in design, and crafted to endure. We are not about creating a mass-market product. But a commitment to the absolute best possible bed linen with an enviable legacy and whose unparalleled quality can stand the test of time.

What We Do

This noble fabric is the preferred bedding of
The Sultan of Brunei, the Imperial Court of Japan
and Buckingham Palace. It is the epitome of luxury and good taste familiar to the cognoscenti and aristocracy for centuries. Although linen is manufactured in other parts of the world, the fineness of the woven cloth that is still achievable by Irish weavers today makes our bedding exceptional. These skills have been handed down from generation to generation and learned over many hundreds of years.
Our philosophy is that the simpler the design, the far more exacting the craft. We eschew unnecessary swirls and flourishes in favour of a restrained simplicity that is elegant, appropriately traditional, timeless and loved by our discerning clientele.
The finely and evenly woven linen bedding is tensile strong and durable. It increases in strength when wet, allowing it to stand up to repeated laundering even at boil temperatures. While luxury cotton bedding usually lasts about three years before showing signs of wear and needing to be replaced at expense, our Irish linen is only starting to blossom. It gets softer with each laundering, becomes silky smooth to the touch and can be passed on to the younger generations as an heirloom. A wise and genteel investment.

We currently offer two grades of linen bedding, Woof 1 - Fine and Woof 2 - Finer
which refers to the degree of delicacy weave and resulting feel, finish and caress.
Weaving at these levels of excellence requires the exceptional skill and and highest quality craftsmanship found in Ireland. It is the reason why this unparalleled, noble and luxurious fabric is loved by the discerning worldwide.

Woof 1 - Fine is a best-of-breed yarn and even linen weave which is suitable for everyday, all season use.

Woof 2 - Finer is a lighter-weight bedding where its gossamer wispness is ideally suited to warm summers, humid conditions and tropical climates.
